Today’s post will be a little bit different from my usual. Remember when I told you that I’m planning to post more about my other shenanigans? Well, seems like today’s the day, lucky you!!
I’m still torn on what to call these types of posts to come, but for now, BEHOLD THE FIRST EVER POST OF DESIGN CONCEPTS!
For this first project, I want to share with you a redesign I did a while back…I must admit, I started this in 2024, but I didn’t have enough time to complete it. ADULTING, UGHH
In case you don’t know, YALC is an annual event that brings together authors, publishers and readers. For two days, you can take part in all the bookish fanfare your heart desires in London. It’s an event I want to visit someday. But since I can’t attend at the moment, I did the next best thing…I decided to redesign their website!
Auditing the current website
First things first, let’s start with things I think needs a little polish:

Too many choices on the navigation bar. It looks quite cluttered;

Hero photo could be improved, it’s brilliant on its own, but could do with a bit of tweaking;

Blog section meh.
Drafting an outline
With these main categories in mind, I outlined a draft of how I want the page to be, here’s a little screenshot:
Basically, having the hero photo as sort of the background with fewer options in the nav bar.
Showcasing three latest posts with the “more” button. I originally wanted to also include the partners and working group in the homepage. But seeing the final result without it seemed better. Tell me what you think!
I also wanted to add more movement to the blog section. At the moment, it doesn’t look that good. I thought making them into little squares with hover effect would be a nice touch.
